A Season of Clean Energy Growth, New Partnerships and Expansion 

Dear partners and friends of Empower New Energy,

As geopolitical conflicts over energy never seem to end, one thing remains clear: reliable, affordable, and renewable energy has never been more important. Across Africa, businesses are accelerating their transition to clean power, and Empower New Energy is proud to be at the forefront of that transformation. As of today, Empower is providing clean electricity to 62 commercial and industrial operating companies or branches in Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Kenya.

In April and May this year, we completed three new solar investments:

• In Morocco, we commissioned two new solar plants for Saray Immo's new logistics and manufacturing hub, totalling 5.8 MW. The plants will generate nearly 10 GWh of clean electricity annually and avoid around 6,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. It is also one of the first solar investments globally to secure an agreement for the sale of Internationally Transferable Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

• In Kano, Nigeria, we completed our second investment, a 1 MW solar plant combined with a 2 MWh battery energy storage system for the food processing company FURSA. In a region with a weak and unreliable grid, the combined PV and BESS installation reduces the off-taker's operating costs and critically stabilises operations.

• In Kenya, we achieved mechanical completion of a new 4 MW ground-mounted solar plant for Abyssinia Group of Industries, East Africa's leading steel manufacturer. Once interconnected, the project will bring the total installed solar capacity at the Awasi facility to 9 MW, producing approximately 14 GWh of clean energy annually.

• In Kenya, we also completed our first Community Development initiative, the Homa Bay Solar Livelihood project along Lake Victoria, a partnership with the NGO Renewable World. The solar-powered cold storage, ice-making, and water treatment system brings real improvements to hundreds of fisherfolk and smallholder farmers, indirectly benefiting around 7,500 community members.

• This spring we did our first investment in Cameroon, a country with strong potential for economic growth, and where private renewable energy investments are crucial for businesses to reduce costly fossil fuel imports and recurring power outages. The construction of the roof-mounted 1.8 MWp solar PV plant with a 2.5 MWh battery storage system for the country's leading cocoa-processing company, Neo Industry, will significantly reduce Neo’s operational energy costs, ensure energy security and reduce CO₂ emissions.

Finally, this spring also marks a new era in our management, as we welcomed

• Susie to her new role as Co-CEO, working alongside Terje. Susie Scanelli Cook has been with Empower as Co-Founder since 2018, moving into this role from Chief Investment Officer. The shared leadership will support stable operations while at the same time positioning Empower New Energy for future growth.

  
  

• In June, our Co-CEO, Terje Osmundsen, was elected to be the new Chairman of the Board of the Norwegian African Business Association (NABA). NABA is a pioneering platform for deepening Nordic-African business relations and building a positive impact on the African continent.
