Empower New Energy, Neo Industry and Eclipse ER announce 1.8 MWp, 2.5 MWh solar and battery project in Cameroon


Empower New Energy and Neo Industry SA are proud to announce the construction start of a solar and battery project at Neo Industry S.A cocoa processing in Kekem, Cameroon. The project, with Éclipse Énergies Renouvelables as development and execution partner, marks Empower New Energy’s first investment in Cameroon. The investment supports the energy transition of one of the country's leading agro-industrial companies.

The investment is made to install a roof-mounted 1.8 MWp Solar PV plant and a 2,5 MWh

Battery storage system at the premises or Neo Industry SA. The investment will significantly reduce Neo’s reliance on grid and diesel generation, promote self-consumption of renewable energy, lower energy and operational energy costs, ensure energy security and reduce the company’s CO₂ emissions.


The contract is a 25-year Power Support Agreement, under which Empower New Energy is

responsible for financing, construction, operations, and supply of electricity.

Strategic location with economic potential

Cameroon is the largest economy in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, and holds significant potential as a diverse, resource-rich nation with a 2024 GDP per capita of USD 1,467, and a GDP growth expanding over 3.5% in 2024-2025. Cameroon’s economic outlook is anchored in agriculture, mining, forestry, and energy, with a goal of emerging status to an upper-middle income country by 2035.


Key growth drivers include strategic infrastructure projects, rising agricultural exports, and a growing digital sector. With a strategic location in Central Africa, next to the Atlantic Ocean, Cameroon is seen as a country with substantial economic potential with a growing customer market attractive for investments.

Neo Industry S.A was founded in 2019 and is today one of the most important cameroonian cocoa processors in the country, playing a strategic role in local value addition, industrial employment, and transformation of the country’s cocoa economy. Neo Industry S.A works with a network of 16.000 small suppliers, 20 cooperatives and 5 unions.  


Initially capable of processing 32,000 tonnes of cocoa beans per year, Neo Industry is undergoing expansion to increase capacity to 80,000 tonnes annually, a move expected to significantly reduce Cameroon’s dependence on raw cocoa exports.  


Contributes to Cameroon's Climate Goals

Like many countries on the African continent, Cameroon faces severe energy challenges. Low rainfall affecting, rising demand (10% annually) leads to frequent power outages in the country.


This negatively affects operational efficiency and economic activity. Still, electrification rates are relatively high in Cameroon compared to the Central African region: 54% of the population has access to electricity. To solve the country’s energy challenges, the government has announced that 4GW of renewable energy projects will be developed by 2035.


The projectsinclude a mix of solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and battery solutions.  

Empower New Energy’s investment in Neo Industry S.A in cooperation with EPC Partner Eclipse ER will improve the energy access and boost the economy in Cameroon. The international investment further contributes to reach Cameroon’s climate goals from the Paris Agreement, with the ambitious target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030.

The project is estimated to provide 2 270.6 MWh of clean electricity annually to the off-taker and cut approximately 1505 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. Over 120 jobs will be created directly or indirectly from the partnership with Empower New Energy. 


Through this project in Cameroon, Empower New Energy will achieve a measurable impact in addressing SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Empower New Energy et Neo Industry S.A. sont fières d’annoncer le démarrage de la construction d’un projet solaire avec stockage par batteries sur le site de transformation de cacao de Neo Industry S.A à Kekem, au Cameroun. Le projet, développé et exécuté en partenariat avec Éclipse Énergies Renouvelables, marque le premier investissement d’Empower New Energy au Cameroun et soutient la transition énergétique de l’une des principales entreprises agro-industrielles du pays. 


L’investissement est réalisé pour installer des panneaux solaires en toiture avec une capacité de 1,8 MWp et un système de stockage par batteries d’une capacité de 2,5 MWh dans les locaux de Neo Industry S.A. L’investissement réduira significativement la dépendance de Neo au réseau électrique et à la production diesel, favorisera l’autoconsommation d’énergie renouvelable, réduira les coûts énergétiques et les coûts opérationnels liés à l’énergie, garantira la sécurité énergétique et diminuera les émissions de CO₂ de l’entreprise. 

Le contrat, d’une durée de 25 ans, est un contrat de fourniture d’électricité (Power Support Agreement). En vertu duquel Empower New Energy est responsable du financement, de la construction, de l’exploitation et de la fourniture d’électricité.

Le Cameroun : une position stratégique au fort potentiel économique


Le Cameroun est la plus grande économie de la Communauté économique et monétaire de l’Afrique centrale et présente un fort potentiel en tant que nation diversifiée et riche en ressources, avec un PIB par habitant de 1 467 USD en 2024 et une croissance du PIB supérieure à 3,5 % sur la période2024-2025. 


Les perspectives économiques du Cameroun reposent sur l’agriculture, les mines, la foresterie et l’énergie, avec pour objectif d’atteindre le statut de pays à revenu intermédiaire supérieur d’ici 2035. Neo Industry S.A a été fondée en 2019 et est aujourd’hui l’un des principaux transformateurs de

cacao camerounais du pays, jouant un rôle stratégique dans la création de valeur locale, l’emploi industriel et la transformation de l’économie du cacao. Neo Industry S.A, travaille avec un réseau de 16 000 petits fournisseurs, 20 coopératives et 5 unions. 

Initialement capable de transformer 32 000 tonnes de fèves de cacao par an, Neo Industry est en cours d’expansion afin d’augmenter sa capacité à 80 000 tonnes par an, une évolution qui devrait réduire de manière significative la dépendance du Cameroun aux exportations de cacao brut. 


Les investissements dans les énergies renouvelables contribuent à répondre au besoin de sources d’énergie fiables et à réduire les émissions de CO₂ afin d’atteindre les objectifs climatiques du Cameroun. 


Comme de nombreux pays du continent africain, le Cameroun fait face à de graves défis énergétiques. La faible pluviométrie affectant les barrages et la hausse de la demande (10 % par an) entraînent des coupures d’électricité fréquentes dans le pays. Cela a un impact négatif sur l’efficacitéopérationnelle et l’activité économique. 


Néanmoins, les taux d’électrification restent relativement élevés au Cameroun par rapport à la région d’Afrique centrale : 54 % de la population a accès à l’électricité. Pour répondre aux défis énergétiques du pays, le gouvernement a annoncé le développement de 4 GW de projets d’énergies renouvelables d’ici 2035. Ces projets comprennent un mix de solutions solaires, éoliennes, hydroélectriques, de biomasse et de stockage par batteries. 

L’investissement d’Empower New Energy dans Neo Industry S.A, en collaboration avec le partenaire technique Éclipse ÉR, améliorera l’accès à l’énergie et stimulera l’économie au Cameroun. Cet investissement international contribue également à atteindre les objectifs climatiques du Cameroun issusde l’Accord de Paris, avec l’objectif ambitieux de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre de 35 % d’ici 2030.

Le projet est estimé fournir 2 270,6 MWh d’électricité propre par an à l’acheteur d’énergie et à réduire environ 1 505 tonnes d’émissions de CO₂ par an. Plus de 120 emplois seront créés, directement ou indirectement, grâce au partenariat avec Empower New Energy. 

À travers ce projet au Cameroun, Empower New Energy aura un impact mesurable dans la réalisation de l’ODD 7 (énergie propre et d’un coût abordable), de l’ODD 8 (travail décent et croissance économique), de l’ODD 13 (Mesures relatives à la lutte contre les changements climatiques) et de l’ODD 17 (partenariats pour la réalisation des objectifs).
