As one of the first award-winners of the International Climate Finance Accelerator (in 2018), Empower this week joined the virtual training session for the 2019 fall cohort of selected fund managers Archipelago Eco Investors, GreenDev, New Africa Impact and ADM Capital. During his presentations, Empower’s founder and CEO Terje Osmundsen talked about lessons learned in setting up and launching a pioneer impact investment fund, and the challenges of raising funds for impact funds.
The Luxembourg-based ICFA is a 2-year acceleration program for start-up climate finance fund managers which select two cohorts of 4 fund managers yearly and provide them with various support, such as training workshops, coaching, and working capital loan. The public-private partnership was set up in 2018 by 10 private entities of the Luxembourg financial sectors as well as the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Environment Climate and Sustainable Development and is supported by the European Investment Bank. Their mission is to enhance the climate finance ecosystem by creating an attractive and supporting environment for innovative and high impact climate fund managers.
“The support from ICFA was an important stimulus for Empower, and I am glad to see new cohorts of impact fund managers taking part,” says Terje Osmundsen.
