Empower New Energy sign partnership agreements with leading African law firms
Following Empower’s grant agreement with the African Development Bank-managed Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) grant, the company this week executed its first three contracts under this framework.
The three contracts awarded to consortia led by Bowmans (based in Kenya), Detail Solicitors (based in Nigeria), and Mazghouny & Co (based in Egypt) are for legal advisory services in support of Empower’s small and medium-sized renewable investments in East, West, and North Africa respectively. With the support from SEFA and through these agreements, Empower is now able to accelerate its investments into high-quality renewable projects that would otherwise have been too small to attract finance.
Susie Scannelli Cook, Empower’s Chief Legal and Investment Officer, noted: “We are glad to enter into partnership agreements with leading African law firms that would assist us with the legal procedures to deploy quality projects to African businesses.”
Aleem Tharani, Partner at Bowmans, said, “With our vast experience in the power sector and our broad regional coverage, we are thrilled at the opportunity to work with Empower under the SEFA programme”.
Dolapo Kukoyi, Partner at Detail Solicitors, commented, “We at DETAIL are pleased to be part of Empower’s strategic efforts, enabled by the SEFA Fund, to increase energy access via clean, cost efficient energy solutions across West Africa”.
Donia El-Mazghouny, Managing Partner at Mazghouny & Co, remarked, “Our agreement with Empower, facilitated by SEFA, will pave the way to unlocking multiple renewable energy projects in Egypt and the region”.
