Empower Solar Programme of Activities in Nigeria

We are inviting your feedback on the design of a proposed Programme of Activities that will deliver solar power to commercial and industrial sites across Nigeria. The consultation is open for 30 days, starting from 25th July 2026 to 25th August 2026.
About this consultation
We are developing solar power systems at commercial and industrial sites across Nigeria. The systems will help our customers run on cleaner, more reliable electricity, replacing power that would otherwise come from the grid or from diesel generators.
The emissions avoided this way make the work eligible for carbon credits under the Gold Standard for the Global Goals, a recognised international standard. We are going through Gold Standard's process to have those credits certified so they can be issued on the voluntary carbon market.
Gold Standard requires that before the credits are issued, we consult publicly on the design of the Programme that brings these projects together. This consultation focuses on the Programme as a whole and the framework that will govern it, rather than on any individual project. Each project will have its own separate consultation at its site.
Within that scope, we would like your views on:

the contribution the Programme will make to sustainable development
Every response we receive will be recorded, considered as we finalise the design, and reflected in the documents we submit to Gold Standard. Each individual project that joins the Programme will go through its own separate stakeholder consultation at the site where it is being built, so you will have further opportunities to engage as specific projects are developed.
About the Programme
What the Programme covers
The Programme is an umbrella that brings multiple solar projects together under one consistent set of rules. Projects are installed on the rooftops and grounds of commercial and industrial businesses across Nigeria. We expect the Programme to host enough projects to add up to 15 MW of installed capacity. Each project is either grid-connected or off-grid, depending on what makes sense for the host site and the local power network.
In the technical language of the standard, the Programme is a "Programme of Activities" (PoA) and each individual project is a "Voluntary Project Activity" (VPA).

The first project we intend to bring under the Programme
As we develop the Programme, we have already identified the first project we intend to bring under it, which is called Juddy-Bolema. It involves installing rooftop solar energy, mainly to power the industry directly.
We are sharing it here so you can see a concrete example of the kind of project activity the Programme will host. The project is not yet formally part of the Programme. Before it can be included, it will go through its own separate stakeholder consultation with the communities affected by the site, along with validation and approval against Gold Standard's requirements. That process runs in parallel to this consultation, which is about the Programme as a whole rather than any single project.
